Moving Tips – TWO TO THREE WEEKS BEFORE MOVING
JETTISON THE JUNK – Tour your home from top to bottom.
Including garage, yard and outside areas. Get rid of things you don’t need anymore.
There is no point paying a Removalist to move them to your new home.
Declutter and enjoy the space in your new home.
Start a “maybe or purge” pile.
Use the spiritual practice of “Letting Stuff Go.” Is it …
PACKING – START NOW! Plan to do some each day. Make sure you clearly Label each box to identify 1. Contents of each box 2. The room it should be placed in at your new home.
MAKE A LIST – Of things your family will need on MOVING DAY and put them aside for the trip.
RETURN – Anything you have borrowed from your friends or neighbours.
CHECKLIST – Use AM Removals inventory checklist to ensure EVERYTHING is included in your quote.
IF – You are moving long distance have your vehicle comprehensively checked.
CHECK – Your fridge & washing machine will fit the space allocated for them in your new home.
TWO TO THREE DAYS BEFORE MOVING
AM Removals are NOT PERMITTED TO TRANSPORT fuels or hazardous chemicals. THEY ARE NOT PERMITTED IN STORAGE.
FUEL – Drain fuel from lawn mower and other equipment. Set aside any flammables such as oil-based paints, turps, aerosol cans & gas bottles.
PLEASE AVOID – Watering pot plants at least two days before the move. You do not want water leaking through the load. If you have small pot plants place them in open fruit boxes lined with plastic or tin foil. Pack them in snugly so they keep each other upright.
DISASSEMBLE – Swing sets, remove legs from trampoline, empty plastic sand pit, remove sand and coal from the BBQ tray.
THE DAY BEFORE THE MOVE – Moving Tips
DEFROST – The fridge & place ALL food into esky’s. Empty ice and drips trays from the fridge. Wipe out the fridge interior with a few drops of vanilla essence in water. This ensures your fridge smells fresh on arrival.
DISASSEMBLE – All items that need or can be disassembled.
Remove castors from ensemble bed bases.
Tape up loose bed slats into neat bundles.
Remove mirrors from dressing tables ( where possible ).
Remember to put screws, nuts & bolts etc in a safe place.
Tape together or tape to item in a snap lock bag. This ensures no essential parts are lost.
Remove shelves and shelf supports from bookcases and wall units.
Disconnect TV, DVD, gaming consoles, stereo systems and computers.
Collect loose leads, remotes and controls and place them in a marked box.
Roll up rugs.
Place tape around the ironing board so it doesn’t spring open.
Drain and roll up garden hoses.
Place tape around hoses so they stay rolled up.
NOTE: AM Removals have electrical tools to disassemble and assemble all furniture. However, it will take additional time and needs to form part of your quotation. So add this to your inventory checklist and resend if you need to add additional tasks.
DOUBLE CHECK – The house again for anything you may have overlooked. If you left anything just give us a call to update your inventory list.
These tips are not all essential, as we can cater to all your needs. However, they will ensure the right team and truck are allocated and save you money on the day of your move.
ON THE BIG DAY – Moving Tips
DROP – Young children & pets off with a friend or babysitter. Or have someone over to supervise them, if possible.
SET ASIDE – Things you may need at the last minute such as vacuum and cleaning equipment.
ORGANISE – A welcome kit for yourself to take in the car. Include snacks, tea, coffee, sugar, mugs, glasses. Toiletries and towels. Our best tip is – Make your beds ASAP after arriving to your new home. You’ll be exhausted and thankful you did!
IF – You need or want your emergency or welcome kit, vacuum cleaner etc to travel in the truck. Be sure they are set aside and marked load last so they are first off.
BEFORE THE TRUCK DEPARTS – Make sure everything has been loaded.
SEND A SCOUT – Make sure there is someone on site at your new home, with keys, to meet removalist team when they arrive.
Unloading Plan – Because we want to do the hard stuff for you.
So make sure your removals team has a clear idea of where everything is to go in your new home.
Label all boxes clearly.
Be creative, colour code the box labels and tape a colour post it note to the door of the room it belongs.
Whatever system works for you.
This will save time and angst if heavier boxes need to be moved AFTER the removalist has gone.
THAT NIGHT – Settle in and welcome to your new home.
